Happy St. Patty’s Day: Irish Blessing

St. Patrick’s Day seems to bring with it merry and drinking… or is it drinking then merry?!

I enjoy seeing everyone wear green… People that tend not to show off their Irish heritage throughout the year, sing from the mountaintops about their father, their grandfather fresh off the boat or a long lost relative that trumps the others in the chain of grand ole Irish… I love the excitement every year. I am sure the local pubs love it as well.

I started thinking about marketing and identity. How bars, gift shops, t-shirt vendors all print their GREEN for this one day… Large cities like Chicago even turn rivers green to celebrate. All of this for one day!

What was the last thing that got you truly excited? Made you want to go celebrate? Caused you to dance? Created a reason for you to dress differently?

May each day be a party unto itself for life is short… to quote a passage: “Life is a mist that appears and then vanishes.”  No one is promised tomorrow with that in mind. Here is my favorite Irish Proverb… May it be your future:

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
